    Three hours drive from Lijiang, vertical cliffs rise dramatically from the turquoise waterways to the Tibetan glaciers - Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (5596m) and Haba Snow Mountain (5396m). The Jinsha River, a tributary of the mighty Yangtze River, cuts its way through the gorge, carving a twisting path through verdant terraced farmlands, imposing limestone ridges, and quiet villages.

    Set off on your journey by following the legendary Jinsha river, accompanied by the sound of it crashing against the rock walls as you head to Walnut Grove. A new day sees you turn uphill, falling in single-file behind the farmer and packhorse carrying produce destined for Naxi villages along the road. Be welcomed into the home of locals to savour a pause and a cup of Pu'er. Finally, descend into fabled Shangri-La to explore golden-roofed temples and Tibetan market fare.
