Itinerary
THREE BIKING OPTIONS: Rendezvous with your tour leaders at 10 am at Kennedy Park, Napa. Please come prepared; dressed in biking clothes and with your rain gear and any other thing you'll need for the day, including your luggage (which will be transported to our first night's accommodations). Start the journey at Napa, where the tour leaders fit your bike and educate you on biking techniques and brief on biking safety and techniques before you go on a warm-up ride. You bike through the famous downtown Napa along the serene oak-linked roads through vineyards. You continue along the Silverado Trail, circumventing the eastern foothills, following the rolling terrain, and bursting out into the heart of Napa Valley. Also, you will pass through the renowned American Viticultural Area (AVA) of Rutherford, whose unique soil composition referred to as the "Rutherford Dust" produces top-notch cabernets. Following that, we eat lunch in the stunning town of Yountville, the street decorated with boutiques and galleries. Then, we enjoy a baked treat from the legendary Bouchon Bakery, take a walk past the gardens of the world-class French Laundry restaurant, and maybe indulge in wine tasting in one of Napa's remarkable wineries. |
||
Your ride ends at Solage, your home for the next two nights. You’ll stay at a picturesque 22 acres oasis embraced by sweeping serene mountain views. Take a dip in their world-class swimming pool and savour the tranquility embraced by staggering mountain vistas, or rejuvenate to a relaxing massage at the high-end spa to help you de-stress from the day’s adventure. Tonight, dine at the hotel's Michelin star restaurant, Sol Bar known for its contemporary wine country cuisine and great cocktails. |
THREE BIKING OPTIONS: After eating breakfast, you bike along the Silverado Trail, circumventing the eastern foothills and following rolling terrain bursting out into the heart of Napa Valley. As we bike past the well-groomed vineyards, old barns, and quaint farmhouses, you could stop at any of the popular wineries including Frog's Leap, Silver Oak, and Cliff Lede. Riders who prefer California's countryside to wine tasting and don't mind a few more miles can bike to the remote Pope Valley which gives a feel of the Napa of the 1970s before it became a popular tourist destination. Follow a peaceful oak-linked road past acres of vineyards and then descend to the valley floor along the shoreline of Lake Hennessey. When you are back in town, you will be greeted with a sumptuous lunch and a tad of wine tasting. Make your way back to the hotel in the van or for those with energy take a serene bike ride. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing and rejuvenating to your heart’s content. Enjoy your resort’s cosmopolitan luxuries from exhilarating and soothing spa facilities including 5 spa tubs, a health club and a sauna. Come evening reconvene for a lovely dinner in town bursting of fresh Californian flavours. |
FOUR BIKING OPTIONS: After enjoying a nice breakfast, you hop in the shuttle for a ride to our starting point for the day, which is just outside Calistoga. You have the option of riding directly from Solage but be sure to inform your leaders and leave earlier. As you bike deeper into the reclining western Sonoma County, initially known for its extensive apple industry, bask in the scenery as it transforms from vineyards to groves of eucalyptus, apple trees, rolling fields, and extensive cattle-grazing country. In the town of Sebastopol, make a stop in the stunning artisan Barlow District where you can enjoy lunch on your own today. This stop is an outdoor market filled with local vendors that range from an ice creamery to a gourmet taqueria. |
||
The afternoon trip is one of the most challenging of the entire trip as it is characterized by a few major climbs, and gales as you approach the Pacific. You will also be chanced to tackle a portion of Levi Leipheimer's King Ridge GranFondo course from Santa Rosa out to the coast through the Coleman Valley and learn its history. Lately, it has become a popular tourist destination known for its miles of rugged headlands and abundant wildlife including snowy egrets, brown pelicans, harbor seals and California sea lions. At the end of the stressful day, you can unwind at the spa or simply relax in your luxury room at the Bodega Bay Lodge or you might prefer to go swimming and enjoy the startling view of a beautiful sunset. Following that, enjoy dinner at your leisure at the lodge's Drakes Sonoma Coast Cuisine restaurant. |
FOUR BIKING OPTIONS: Begin the day with a spin along the coast past 10 miles of vertical walled bluffs and a series of Sonoma Coast State Park beaches. Make sure to look out for surfers and seal amidst the crashing surf. Swerve inshore at the mouth of the Russian River and follow its path. Get a feel of the bohemian culture as you ride through Guerneville. Visit one of their diversified shops or grab an ice cream cone in the notable bank building. Enter into a state of serenity as you enter the Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve enshrouded in the inebriating earthy scent of wood and rich soil. After this, we feast on a gourmet picnic under towering thousand-year-old redwoods. |
||
In the afternoon, the ride takes you past various popular wineries including Twomey Cellars, a Russian River gem boasting fine Pinot noir. The route is engulfed in oak trees that open up as you approach Healdsburg, and you are once again greeted by vineyards. After today’s adventure, a restorative session at the luxury spa or a soothing swim in the shimmering pool at the Hotel Healdsburg will definitely help you relax. In the evening, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious dinner on your own in one of the region’s exotic restaurants. |
FOUR BIKING OPTIONS: After breakfast, you head out for a spin, on your bike through the narrow Dry Creek Valley known for producing some of the most exquisite zinfandels in California. If you like, you could stop for a cappuccino at Geyserville Coffee. The rolling route continues to the Alexander Valley, which has been compared to France's Bordeaux region. In the past two decades, various first-rate wineries have been established in the area including Robert Young Estate, Hanna Winery, and Hawkes among others. We’ll make a stop in Alexander Valley for a nice picnic lunch followed by a tasting at Silver Oak Winery's brand-new state-of-the-art facility. You can choose to bike or shuttle back to the hotel where you can visit the spa or stroll around the plaza downtown. For those interested in cycling more miles you could head up the bucolic Chalk Hill Road in the afternoon, where you'll enter a quiet and serene but challenging hill. After that, you continue your ride through Windsor and back to Healdsburg. To end the day, we converge for a special dinner at the hotel's restaurant; Dry Creek Kitchen. |
Level 1, Approx 34 km (21 miles), Elevation Gain: 244m (800 ft) Today, choose your adventure. For those in search of one last escapade, embark on a bike ride enjoying a loop ride on the two parallel roads along the Russian River: Eastside and Westside Roads. For those seeking for a relaxing end to their adventure, detox to the creature comforts of your hotel or visit one of the shops to grab a souvenir or an item you’ve been eyeing. Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and Age Limits
You need to advise Onlyluxe travel and the tour operator on any pre-existing medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of your requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a trip and the enjoyment of other trip members. Onlyluxe Travel and the tour operator may require an assessment of your medical condition from a qualified medical practitioner. If you fail to adequately notify the tour operator of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disability, the tour operator reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your participation in a trip at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other trip members.
Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a tour with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the tour has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any tour up to 60 days prior to departure if the minimum number requirement is unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the tour or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.
Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.
Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.
For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.
Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
