After meeting at the train station in Voss, Norway. We shuttle to Sivle Gard, a mountain farm sited close to the fascinating peaks and cliffs of the Nærøyfjord valley. This is where we will settle for lunch. Relax while you're treated to a homemade treat, including brunost taste, a tasty cheese-related treat made with whey, cream, and milk. After lunch, we set out on foot while you watch the lush valleys plunged with farms, waterfalls, and wildflowers in awe. Experience the all-encompassing views of the converging valleys below. Take your time and take in every view and when you're ready, take a few clicks to walk towards Stalheim, where you behold a part of the distinctive fjord landscape in the heart of western Norway. |
||
Our destination in view this afternoon is the Stalheim Hotel, perfectly nestled on a high mountain amid imposing views of the Nærøyfjord valley and surrounding mountains mostly covered in snow. Tonight, the property manager will be treating us to a guided tour featuring the property's iconic open-air folk museum. Feed your senses to glimpses of the impressive cultural history of the Stalheim museum. This tour will take you back in time from the middle ages to pre-world war II. Lastly, you will be treated to a warm reception put together by your tour leaders followed by a private dinner in one of the hotels' notable barns where you savor delicious, homemade Norwegian cuisines prepared with fresh, organic ingredients. |
Level 1, Approx. 5 km (3 miles), Elevation gain: 61 m (200 ft) Before today's trip, you will be served breakfast in readiness for the expedition. We will shuttle to a village located on the western shore of Nærøyfjord, known as Bakka. Afterward, we set off on sail across the fjord where we hit the starting point of our first milestone located on an isolated side of the waterway. From here, you're accompanied by a local guide as we traverse the historic ancient royal postal road used in the past for mail deliveries across the country. Immerse in the unreal scenery of domineering waterfalls and stunning viewpoints spitting the Nærøyfjord. Keep an open eye because you may catch a glimpse of seals. We set sail on a ferry voyage through the Nærøyfjord, dubbed the world's most narrow fjord, encompassing a surreal view of nature's wild wonders. As we sail through this path, watch as the sheer lush vegetation of the mountains converges on both sides of this epic channel. While taking in the scenic wonders, enjoy a tasty snack onboard with a plethora of Norwegian specialities available. Once we're off the ferry ride, we'll take a brief ride to Solvorn, a village situated just directly across the fjord from the village of Ornes. Explore its vibrant vegetation and learn about its fauna and lush landscape on a self-guided tour. Or you can take a ferry across Lustrafjord to Ørnes and visit the historic Urnes Stave Church, a stunning World Heritage Site. |
||
When you're done, we will head out this afternoon to Torvis hotel, a 17th- century building nestled very close to the waterfront. Relax and enjoy enthralling views of Lustrafjord which can be sighted easily from this property. Relax and unwind as you prepare to be served a delectable dinner at the hotel restaurant, with a menu of traditional Norwegian and International meals made from fresh, locally produced ingredients for you to choose from. |
Today, we shuttle to meet our hiking guide at the Jostedal Glacier National park. Here, you will pack every piece of equipment you need for this exciting exploration across the ice roads. When you're geared up and ready to go, we hit the roads as we journey across the Sapphire-blue Nigardsbreen in an epic hike. The "nine-farm glacier" plays host to a charming display of blue. As you walk across, catch a subtle glimpse of the deep blue lake just adjacent to the Nigardsbreen glacier. This portion of the landscape refers to the 9 farms that were overtaken prior to forming the glaciers. While taking on these epic glaciers, You will come to know what purpose the receding glaciers serve. This massive recession of glacial meltwater is not laid to waste as the meltwater plays a massive role in generating energy through the hydroelectric plant. Asides from feeding the lake at the glacial foot, the considerable amount of meltwater feeds the hydroelectric plant, which is used heavily throughout Norway. After our hike, we warm up with soup and salad at a spectacular restored traditional cottage-turned-hotel. Return to your accommodation at Torvis hotel and recuperate while waiting to be served a delectable Norwegian delicacy for dinner. |
TWO HIKING OPTIONS: After a lovely breakfast this morning, prepare to come face-to-face with Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier on the European mainland, as we shuttle to Fjærland, a small-scale dairy-producing community. As we arrive at this location, be ready to make your own hiking decisions, with each promising a view of the enchanting U-Shaped valley and the stunning ice masses sprawling from the high peaks of the mountains. We will tread through the gentle Mundalsdalen route to a land covered in lush pastures. As you ascend, slowly process into a meadow covered in wildflowers. Watch as the surrounding waterfalls enhance this enigma. On this route, we make a stop at the Norwegian Glacier Museum, a contemporary museum dedicated to climate and glaciers. Have an up-close experience with glaciology while also learning about its impact on Norway's Topography. Those interested in more intense and exciting explorations can join up with our experienced local guide for a more challenging hike heading to the foot of Flatbreen. As we journey into the medial part of the day, we will boat through Fjærlandsfjord, the deepest and longest fjord situated in Vestland county, Norway. Amuse your senses as we gently glide through the striking ambiance of the beautiful villages closely knitted together, not forgetting the grazing cows and sheep littered across the lush meadows nestled just high above the water. As we forge ahead, notice how the previously hiked glaciers become more distant and less detailed, this you will discover as we gain more on the impending Sognefjord; Balestrand will be our last stride for our journey today. |
||
We arrive at Kviknes hotel, Balestrand. Enjoy a comfortable stay at this elegant 18th-century hotel with a swish-styled taste to the structure. Relish its long-winded verandas and the panoramic views circling this fascinating accommodation. After enjoying dinner tonight, you can choose to take a relaxing stroll through the town or sit at the hotels' encircling porch and watch the sunset light prance on the fjord from a distance. |
THREE HIKING OPTIONS: Brace yourself for a more exciting journey today as we set off on foot. We will trample above the forest grounds amid lofty pines and birch speckled on the forest planes to Baledtølen, a lookout point from where you will be able to sight Sognefjord's azure blue waters and rising mountain peaks topped with snow. If you're up for a more befitting view of all three fjord arms, challenge yourself to a steep climb high above the marauding tree lines for a complete view. After an energizing afternoon meal in town, we prepare to immerse in the chilly waters fed by the fjord. If you'd rather stay above this crisp water, borrow a rowboat from the hotel for an enjoyable glide above the chilly fjord water or take an exciting spin around the fjord in a rented bike ride. This evening we celebrate you and draw a final toast to a memorable expedition in Norway. Take your time while enjoying a memory glance through every location, riveting scenes, and magical fjords of your expedition in Norway. |
This memorable experience comes to an end as you bid farewell to your trip leaders. Board one last ferry for a voyage through the pristine fjords of Norway. Steal a subtle backdrop glimpse of the fjord for the last time as you journey to the iconic Bryggen wharf, Bergen. Your trip ends here. Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and Age Limits
You need to advise Onlyluxe travel and the tour operator on any pre-existing medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of your requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a trip and the enjoyment of other trip members. Onlyluxe Travel and the tour operator may require an assessment of your medical condition from a qualified medical practitioner. If you fail to adequately notify the tour operator of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disability, the tour operator reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your participation in a trip at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other trip members.
Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a tour with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the tour has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any tour up to 60 days prior to departure if the minimum number requirement is unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the tour or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.
Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.
Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.
For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.
Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
