Itinerary
TWO HIKING OPTIONS: At 9:30 a.m. on the first day of the trip, rendezvous with the trip leaders at the UNA Palace Hotel, situated at Via Etnea, 218 in Catania, Italy. Be sure to wear your hiking attire and appropriate shoes for traversing rocky ground. Bring along your luggage and a daypack stocked with rain gear and any other necessary items required for today's hike. (Your luggage will be transported to our first night's accommodations). Welcome to the enchanting island of Sicily! As you arrive in Catania, we prepare to embark on a journey that will indulge all your senses. Our first stop is at the Argimusco area, where an indulgent classic picnic awaits us. Revel in the explosion of flavours on your taste buds, as you explore the vibrant spread of salads, antipasto, and local sandwich fixings that are influenced by Sicilian culture. Savour some of the world's finest sun-dried tomatoes and the juicy local olives as you soak in the stunning Sicilian landscape around you. After lunch, our hiking adventure begins through the mesmerising Malabotta woods, where centuries-old gnarled trees and shrubs welcome us with open arms. Hear the gentle flow of the meandering streams and admire the varied wildflowers that colour the trail we hike on. Our ultimate destination, the Rocche dell'Argimusco, has inspired multiple astrological and occult theories, and rightly so. These monumental sandstone rocks that rise up into the sky, much like the famed Stonehenge, are sure to leave you spellbound. Their mysterious shapes and positions ignite the imagination, leaving one to ponder their origin and meaning. |

Our shuttle through the breathtaking Sicilian countryside, as we make our way to our home for the next two nights - Villa Neri, is a journey in itself. An elegant and contemporary resort, keeping true to its traditional sentiments, overlooking Sicily's spectacular vineyards, olive groves, and oak forests. Take a few hours to indulge in the comforts of your room or pamper yourself at the spa (Spa treatments are not included in the trip price. Advance reservations are recommended). We will gather later for a warm welcome reception and aperitivo before heading to the hotel's exquisite restaurant for dinner. |
THREE HIKING OPTIONS: Rise and shine to a glorious morning as you treat yourself to a scrumptious breakfast and indulge in a velvety cappuccino that will awaken your senses for the adventure that awaits. We embark on an unforgettable journey to Mount Etna, a dramatic World Heritage site and Europe's tallest active volcano. As we set foot on the trails of Etna, immerse yourself in the lush lower landscape that plays host to fertile vineyards, citrus, and olive groves. As we ascend, be prepared to witness the awe-inspiring transformation of volcanic ecology, shifting from dense forests to layers of ash, sand and fragments of lava and slag. Ensure to pack some extra layers as this natural wonder can unleash unpredictable weather. Venture further upwards and come face-to-face with the enigma and allure of this towering giant. Accompanied by one of our knowledgeable geologists and lava experts, you will be guided through the mesmerising lunar-like upper landscape of Etna. Travel through rocky trails, walking over lava cones and markings, and even get a rare insight into the depths of a cave through an age-old lava tunnel. Throughout the hike, the imposing snow capped peak of Etna will follow our every move. This astounding hike will be followed by a hearty lunch at a local rifugio, where you can savour some authentic Sicilian flavours. Then return to our abode for a relaxing afternoon before gathering for an appetising dinner. |
THREE HIKING OPTIONS: Indulge in a delectable breakfast at the luxurious hotel as we prepare to embark on an adventure to the captivating port city of Milazzo. Awaiting us is a thrilling journey across the shimmering Tyhrrenian Sea by ferry that will transport us to the enchanting island of Vulcano. This picturesque island, the southernmost of the seven Aeolian Islands, is waiting to be explored! Vulcano is appropriately named after the ancient Roman deity, the god of Fire. The region features one active volcano crater, known as La Fossa. Our trail blazes a path through pale rocky terrains that are laced with the unearthly vapours and gases that emanate from the distant fumaroles. These mesmerizingly strange locations are always filled with a mystical white steam that weaves an enigmatic aura through the air, making every step of our hike a seemingly otherworldly experience. |

Moving into lunchtime, we indulge in a Sicilian delicacy of fresh cheese varieties at a local producer, while also savouring lunch that is quintessentially Italian. Then you have the choice to either explore the crystal-clear waters surrounding you or go on an optional hike to take in the expansive views, which will leave you in awe of the island's natural beauty. Alternatively, you may choose to kick back and relax at the Therasia Resort Sea & Spa, where the crystal-blue water, sky, and stunning surroundings are perfectly showcased by the resort's luxurious suites and infinity pools. As the evening rolls in, the choice is yours to unwind and enjoy dinner at your own pace at one of the four fantastic restaurants at the resort, where you can indulge in the unique flavours of the island while taking in breathtaking panoramic views of the sultry evening. |
THREE HIKING OPTIONS: Prepare to set sail on a voyage that will take you to the mesmerising Salina Island, the jewel of the Aeolian chain. As the scenic ferry gently glides in, the breathtaking view of Salina's sandy shores welcomes you. The island's nickname, "green pearl," is truly well-deserved as it is truly a verdant paradise teeming with an impressive array of vegetation. From the striking prickly pear cacti to the shimmering silver olive groves, the lively caper plants to the exquisite lines of grapes, you will be fascinated by Salina's impressive abundance. Be ready to take in all this natural beauty as you embark on a morning hike, marvelling at the panoramic views that will leave you spellbound. Lunch time approaches and it's time to treat your palate to some of the excellent local delicacies at a renowned winery. You'll have a chance to sample some of the finest red and white wines, including those made from Malvasia grapes, with their versatile flavour profiles that are both dry and sweet, with floral, fruit, and citrus notes that are simply irresistible. As the day winds down, it's time to recharge your batteries back at the hotel before setting course for the neighbouring Lipari Island. A quick ferry ride takes you to the island's Archeological Museum and the ancient castle that bears witness to Italy's fascinating history. Take a mesmerising tour that will leave you breathless with wonder, as you explore the intriguing remnants of the past that tell stories of a rich and dynamic culture. Tonight's dinner in Lipari will be a solo affair. Explore the charming streets to find a waterfront eatery serving local delicacies and granita, a refreshing dessert made from finely crushed ice and commonly flavoured with mulberry, lemon, or prickly pear. |
THREE HIKING OPTIONS: As you wake up to a sumptuous breakfast at your hotel, get ready to set sail for yet another enchanting island on your Aeolian chain tour. This time, you'll be heading to the dazzling Panarea, the smallest island in the group (with only 280 full-time residents), but with a reputation that far outweighs its size. Known as the go-to destination for the Italian and European elite, Panarea's charm lies in its quaint hamlets, glistening waters, and pristine white-sand beaches. Embark on a delightful hike through Panarea, with the magnificent Stromboli volcano in the background towering over your every step. While it hasn't had a significant eruption since 2009, the volcano is well-known for its constant smaller rumbles that make for quite the spectacle. As you take in the panoramic views along the way, stop for a break and feast on a delightful lunch in a local restaurant. But the adventure isn't over yet! After lunch, it's time to embark on a private boat ride back to Vulcano, where you'll have the chance to plunge into the bubbling waters of Solfatara Lisca Bianca and swim to your heart's content under the warm Mediterranean sun. |

Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a tour with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the tour has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any tour up to 60 days prior to departure if the minimum number requirement is unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the tour or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.
Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.
Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.
In the genuine spirit of expedition travel, we encourage exploration and adventure offering flexibility in challenging environments. This itinerary is only a guide and is subject to change due to weather, sea and other conditions beyond our control.
For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.
Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
