Your journey starts in the peaceful alpine valley of Bohinj, surrounded by green forests, quiet mountains, and the clear waters of Lake Bohinj. It is the largest natural lake in Slovenia and is well known for its calm, glassy water and mountain views. Bohinj is located within Triglav National Park, Slovenia's only national park and one of the oldest protected alpine areas in Europe. The park was created to protect the dramatic mountains, forests, rivers, and wildlife around Mount Triglav (the country’s highest peak). Locals even say that to be a true Slovenian, you should climb Mount Triglav at least once in your life. Around 6 pm, meet your leader and a small group of fellow travellers for the first time. Say zdravo (hello). Take advantage of the relaxed opportunity to get to know each other and hear about the adventures awaiting you in the mountains and lakes of this special region. We get things officially underway with a welcome dinner put together by our tour leader, a profound gesture to set the pace for a truly amazing journey ahead. You’ll stay at Hotel Jezero, a welcoming retreat poised on the shores of Lake Bohinj, where you will be enveloped by the wild beauty of Triglav National Park. Unwind in the serene wellness centre, complete with its heated indoor pool and saunas, or simply connect with your fellow travellers on the mountain-view terrace. |

Ease into the week with a refreshing 12 km (7.5 miles) around Lake Bohinj tucked into the heart of the Julian Alps: a hidden gem. Our trail traces gentle forest paths and over charming wooden bridges, allowing you to truly appreciate the ever-changing views of the soaring Mount Triglave. With insights from your leader bringing the area to life, hear local tales: from the legendary Zlatorog, the golden-horned chamois said to guard these mountains, to the way villages coexist with the park today. After soaking up the scenery, we take a break from walking and take on the opportunity to glide across the lake on a stand-up paddleboard. First, we start with a calm introduction to paddleboarding on calm water, showing you the basics, then set off to explore at your own pace. Even with its size and depth (the deepest in Slovenia plunges nearly 150 ft), motorboats are mostly banned here, making the lake wonderfully peaceful and clean, too. The water flowing down from the surrounding Julian Alps is so pure that nearby mountain streams are often safe to drink from. As the day fades, surrender to a different experience along the quiet, lantern-lit shores. Take a moment to admire the soft glow of the lanterns flickering on the water as the sun dips behind the mountain, magically transforming this gentle 45-minute walk. |

This morning, we transfer (one hour) by train to Kanal ob Soči, following the sparkling Idrijca and Soča rivers. Many say this is one of Slovenia’s most beautiful train journeys, with river bends, forested hills, and alpine views that accompany the journey from outside your window. On arrival, we grab our e-bikes, strap on our helmets, and start a 24 mi (38 km) cycling adventure. Beginning along the emerald-green Soča River, this route features twists and turns before gently climbing through the rolling hills of Goriška Brda, famed for its wine and located near the Italian border. This area is often called “Little Tuscany,” and is dotted with vineyards, olive groves, and cherry orchards. Our detour brings us to a local winery around 1 pm. Here, we sample some of the region’s best wines led by a sommelier, while taking in the views. Afterward, we hitch another 30 minutes cycling leg to Nova Gorica, where we hop back on the train with our e-bikes for the ride back to Bohinj. |

Wake up and hop on your bike as we set off on a 30 km (18 mi) three- to four-hour loop around Lake Bohinj. The ride passes through stunning landscapes, showing why this part of Slovenia feels so connected to nature, with the Bohinjka River carving canyons, forming caves, and cascading over centuries. Halfway through, we swing by a family-run farm for an optional cheese tasting. Here, traditional dairy farming has been going strong for generations, shaping life in this valley. You have the opportunity to sample fresh alpine cheeses while enjoying the stories about the region’s cheese-making history. Back on the road, we continue riding past Studor village, where you can see the old Slovenian hayracks, called kozolci, standing in the fields. Then cross the cool Bicycle Bridge over the Sava River. We return to the hotel around 3:30 pm, leaving the rest of the afternoon free to relax, walk around, or just enjoy the quiet lake views. |

We depart the hotel early, around 7:30, travelling across the Julian Alps towards the Soča Valley. The drive is approximately three hours, with planned stops to help us admire the breathtaking scenery. Our route also passes through Kranjska Gora, before briefly crossing into Italy (Keep your passports handy), where there is a short photo stop at Lake del Predil. We continue into Slovenia again, before descending into the valley. By around 9:30 am, the day’s activities are in full swing. Those who opt for the zipline take part in one of Europe's longest multi-cable routes: descending a series of 10 soaring steel lines suspended high above the dramatic Učja Canyon in the Soča Valley. For those who have not had the pleasure of experiencing something in this fashion, the ride begins slowly, then ramps up in height (up to 200 meters above the gorge and speed, with pure, edge-of-your-seat exhilaration. You also get a jaw-dropping bird’s eye view of turquoise waters, roaring waterfalls, and the Julian Alps framing the horizon. Alternatively, those not ziplining may choose to join the tour leader for a 1-hour and 30-minute walk along established trails that run through the surrounding hills We pause for lunch in the afternoon, and afterwards, our focus shifts to the water. We head into the Soča River for an afternoon of white-water rafting, which covers around 5–6 miles (8–10km). The route includes a mix of calmer sections and more dynamic rapids (Class I–IV), all navigated under the guidance of experienced, licensed skippers. We return to the hotel at approximately 7:00 pm, following a truly amazing day. |

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before we hitch a one-hour transfer to Vintgar Gorge. From here, a wooden boardwalk carries us for approximately 1.6 km (1 mile) through the gorge, weaving between steep, near-vertical rock walls. Take your time to fully enjoy the experience as you walk; the sound of rushing water echoes through the canyon, while the clear river shifts between calm, cool pools of bursting energy, forming rapids and small cascading falls. Look out for the changing colors of the water, often appearing in shades of green and blue, and notice how the light filters through the narrow cliffs above. There are several spots along the way that allow you to pause, take photos, or simply stand still and soak in the atmosphere of this unique natural setting. Once we’ve had our fill, we return to the support car for a short 20-minute drive to Bled, set against the backdrop of the Julian Alps. The town is known for its fairy-tale scenery, most especially its lake, its small island church, and the castle perched high on a rocky cliff above the water. Following an introduction to the area, there is free time to explore at your own pace. You may choose to visit the castle, take a traditional wooden pletna boat across to the island church, where there is a wishing bell. The bell itself dates back to the 16th century and hangs in the tower above the church nave. For those wanting a more active option, the tour leader will also offer a guided hike to one of the elevated viewpoints, providing a wider perspective over the lake and the surrounding area. Come evening, we come together for a farewell dinner, offering time to reflect on the journey and as well, share highlights from the experience. |

Slovenia has a mixed alpine climate with summer temperatures in the range of 18 to 25ºC. In the mountains cool mornings are normally followed by warm pleasant days, with temperatures in the Alps being ideal for walking. During summer months afternoon showers of rain cool down the humidity, giving way to clear skies and pleasant temperatures.
The walking level on this trip is rated Level 3 Moderate
Level 1 Leisurely: Experience is not necessary; anyone fit and healthy enough to complete a weekend walk will thrive. Walks are often optional. Trails are seldom flat, so expect a reasonable number of ascents and descents. You normally walk for two to five hours per day; daily ascents will likely be around 985ft to 1,640ft (300m to 500m), perhaps with the odd day around 1,970ft (600m).
Level 3 Moderate: Expect easy, medium-length walks or harder, shorter walks. Some experience is useful, but not essential. Good health and reasonable fitness are important. There will be walks at higher altitudes and some longer, harder days. Generally, though, the underfoot conditions will be fair. A walking day is normally five to seven hours; daily ascents will likely be around 1,640ft to 2,625ft (500m to 800m), perhaps with the odd day around 2,955ft to 3,280ft (900m to 1,000m).
Level 5 Challenging: Fitness is vital with extended walking in mountainous terrain. You might also experience high altitude, challenging climates and remote locations. Trekking experience is desirable, but not vital if you are confident in your physical condition. Walking days are usually between six and eight hours, although they may be longer for passes or peaks. Daily ascents can be around 2,955ft to 3,280ft (900m to 1,000m), perhaps with the odd day around 3,610ft to 3,940ft (1,100m to 1,200m).
Level 7 Tough: Trekking experience is essential and preferably at altitude. You need complete confidence in your ability to trek for many days over difficult terrain. You may encounter extreme altitude and weather conditions and may need to use ice axes and crampons. Stamina is essential as walking days last six to nine hours (sometimes more on occasions). Daily ascents will likely be around 2,955ft to 3,280ft (900m to 1,000m), perhaps with the odd day around 3,610ft to 3,940ft (1,100m to 1,200m).
Split and optional grades: Where a trip falls between two grades, an intermediate or ‘split’ grade is used. For example, Level 2 (Leisurely/Moderate). Occasionally there are optional ascents available; in this case, the grade will be highlighted.
Suitability: This is a multi-activity adventure, so you should be comfortable taking part in the different activities on offer.
Water safety: This trip includes time by a lake, river or sea, where there may be opportunities to swim. You should always seek local advice before deciding whether to swim. Open-water or wild swim spots should be treated with extreme caution.
Transport: We use one or two minivans for transfers, depending on group size, plus local trains.
Food: Traditional Slovenian cuisine is hearty and tasty, with plenty of stews, sausages and dumplings to fuel your hikes. Vegetarians are well catered for, but please let us know in advance if you have any dietary requirements.

Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a tour with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the tour has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any tour up to 60 days prior to departure if the minimum number requirement is unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the tour or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.
Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.
Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.
For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.
Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
