Itinerary
TWO BIKING OPTIONS: On the first day of the trip, meet your tour leaders at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Intermodal train and bus station, located at Plaça d'Espanya in Palma de Mallorca. We'll meet outside by the top of the escalators at the main entrance to the station. Please, ensure you arrive dressed in your biking clothes and bring your luggage and a daypack containing your rain gear and anything else you may want for the day's ride (your luggage will be transported to our first night's accommodations). If you plan to change into your gear following our shuttle, please be informed that a good changing area is often unavailable. Welcome to Mallorca, the first stop on our two-island tour of Spain's Balearic paradise. Situated in the Mediterranean just south of Barcelona, its spectacular scenery, fascinating landscape, peaceful bike-friendly roads, and sublime subtropical climate make Mallorca a cyclist's paradise. There is usually more bike traffic than car traffic on the island's roads. About 80,000 riders come here annually, making for great two-wheeled camaraderie! Following our meeting in the port city and regional capital of Palma de Mallorca (locally known as Palma), we embark on a scenic journey northwest to the lovely mountain village of Escorca. Here we savour a family-style lunch in the centre of the charming Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. It is a World Heritage-designated terrain decorated with pine forests, bright green valleys, striking peaks, and peaceful winding roads. After eating lunch, your tour leaders fit your bike and educate you briefly on biking techniques and safety, and you are ready to pedal from the winding foothills of this majestic range toward the coast. Set out on a tarred road through the serene landscape of the foothills as you encounter stunning views with every turn. Jaw-dropping mountain scenes fade to gorgeous panoramas of Pollença Bay as we get closer to the coastline. |
||
Today's destination is Son Brull Hotel & Spa, a member of Relais & Châteaux located on a hillside overlooking the bay of Pollença and our home for the next three nights. Settle and get comfortable in your room, take a refreshing dip in the pool or pamper yourself at the spa (at own expense) In the evening, we convene for a welcome reception followed by a delicious dinner of Mallorcan specialties with mountain views in the hotel's exquisite restaurant. |
FOUR BIKING OPTIONS: After an energising breakfast, hop on your bike and head into the heart of Mallorca's breath-taking wine region. A quiet paved road brings us past a green valley, accessorised with quaint villages and windmills tucked among olive and fruit groves. The windmills are a vital part of Mallorcan culture. They are used by farmers to grind grain and pump water, and the government is actively working to restore and keep the island's 3,000 windmills, some of which date back to the 13th century. Head toward the peaceful Campanet village, where you're welcome to traverse the narrow streets or maybe pause for a mid-morning coffee. Component, unfrequented by many tourists, offers a nice glimpse into genuine Mallorcan life and shows off the region's spectacular natural features. Another thing the town has is a rich agricultural history owing to its natural springs that flow from the neighbouring cliffs. Following our stop for a delectable lunch in a lovely local winery in Binissalem's quaint vine country, reconnect with your bike and take quiet, peaceful roads past the area's flourishing vineyards. Cycle well-paved bike routes past lush farmland, windmills, and stone walls as you head to Alaró, a former Moorish fortress that was also the first Mallorca town to start using electricity. Then, get on the shuttle to return to our hotel, or cover a few more kilometres and make your way there by bike. Get back to the hotel, relax poolside, or maybe treat yourself to a spa session. Tonight, you are free to explore Pollença- a previous Roman settlement rebuilt inland during the 13th century for protection against pirate attacks. If you're still in the mood to keep moving, head up the 365 steps to reach Calvari church and the expansive vistas over the mountains and the bay. This evening, enjoy dinner at your leisure at a restaurant in one of Pollença's many cosy squares. |
FOUR BIKING OPTIONS: Leave the hotel this morning, following small winding routes past the sapphire Mediterranean Sea. Cycle down the coast, trailing the turquoise Mediterranean past decked mountainsides, cliffs, and magnificent viewpoints. Today's destination is Cap de Formentor, and the scenic ride there is legendary in the cycling world. We take a break to enjoy lunch on a secluded beach at Cala Barques, where limestone peaks meet dazzling water that might just tempt you for an afternoon swim. Continue riding and tackling a bit of climbing toward the Formentor Peninsula, the most jagged and remote area of Mallorca. Up for a challenge? Encounter awe-inspiring ocean views as you near the lighthouse at the cape's end. You may return to the hotel this afternoon by shuttle or bike; ensure to relax and enjoy its amenities. If you're still up for a little more sightseeing, head back to the lovely town of Pollença. Later, meet your tour leader for a private tasting of Oli still, the island's unique olive oil. Mallorca's olive oil is made from three types of olives, Mallorcan, Arbequina, and Picual, whose trees you'll see decorating the landscape, and is ranked among the best in the world. Olive oil production is a centuries-old tradition, and this exquisite ingredient is essential in almost every regional dish. See if you can notice the variation of these flavours over a family-style barbecue dinner tonight at the hotel. |
TWO BIKING OPTIONS: Prepare to say goodbye to Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands, and get ready for a panoramic flight to Menorca, its enrapturing and lightly populated sister island. A shuttle takes us to the airport, where we board our commercial flight to the majestic port city of Mahón. From there, we take a shuttle to a tiny local restaurant in the countryside for a special lunch before beginning our ride. Our route provides us with enough opportunities to soak in the allure of Menorca's rural terrain and its coastline. If you think it can't get much better, pedal to the Favaritx lighthouse for an even more breath-taking island scenery. |
||
Later, we make our way to Torralbenc, our exceptional Menorcan oasis housed in a 17th-century palace on a traditional ranch. Unwind by the pool or soak in the scenery by its alresco courtyard to while away the afternoon, or perhaps a visit to the terrific spa is in order. We convene for a casual tasting of award-winning local beer and cheese before a delectable dinner at a famed restaurant in town. |
FOUR BIKING OPTIONS: Savour breakfast at the hotel before setting out on the day's spectacular ride, which is sure to be a highlight of the trip. As we leave directly from the hotel, we swerve inland through postcard-perfect farmland decorated with authentic farmhouses that seem stuck in time. Then we reach an ethereal terrain as we meet Menorca's windswept craggy northern coast. If you are feeling up for it, ride an out-and-back route to the Cape of Caballerias, where awe-inspiring panoramas of the sea greet you on both sides of the road before lunch. We gather for lunch in the delightful fishing village of Fornells, where white stone houses and small sailboats are set against the jewel-toned water of the bay. It's a unique place with a captivating story and the ideal spot for lunch on your own. Have the best time as a lobster fan at Fornells, famed for its lobster stew. Eat lunch and continue your ride along the winding hills of the north coast, admiring the island's beauty as you make your way back to the hotel. If you'd like a siesta in the shade, join the shuttle for a lift back instead. We gather tonight for a goodbye libation and to toast our fantastic adventure in Spain's Balearic islands before sitting down to a gastronomic dinner featuring Basque cuisine and local family recipes at the hotel. |
TWO BIKING OPTIONS: We head south along narrow roads and through tranquil hills for our final trip ride. Take in pockets of views of the dazzling Mediterranean sea as we make our way to the interpretive visitors centre of Torre d'en Galmes. Here we learn about the Talayotic culture and traverse the incredible ruins of a 2,500-year-old settlement. Enjoy brunch before saying goodbye to your tour leaders. Afterward, board a private shuttle to Mahón's airport or Mahón's central bus station. NOTE: This itinerary is provided as an example only – prevailing conditions and local arrangements may cause variation. |

You need to advise Onlyluxe travel and the tour operator on any pre-existing medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of your requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a trip and the enjoyment of other trip members. Onlyluxe Travel and the tour operator may require an assessment of your medical condition from a qualified medical practitioner. If you fail to adequately notify the tour operator of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disability, the tour operator reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your participation in a trip at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other trip members.
Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a tour with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the tour has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any tour up to 60 days prior to departure if the minimum number requirement is unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the tour or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.
Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.
Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.
For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.
Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
