Itinerary
Departing in the afternoon from Brisbane, set out on Queensland’s ultimate overnight rail journey aboard the iconic Spirit of Queensland. Onboard this legendary train, you’ll travel in style along Queensland’s stunning coastline. You’ll have your very own RailBed – a spacious seat by day and a lie-flat bed by night with all linen provided including sheets, duvet and pillow for your comfort. Settle in and watch the scenery go by or make the most of your state-of-the-art in-seat entertainment including large screen and on-demand movies, music and audio books. You may also venture down to the club car to purchase a light snack or refreshment between your meals. |
Arrive into Cairns Railway Station at 4:30pm, where you will be greeted by your private chauffeur who will drive you one hour north to Port Douglas, where the rainforest meets the reef. As you navigate the famous coastal road, gaze out over white sand beaches and endless turquoise ocean. You’ll stay the next three nights at Coconut Grove luxury holiday apartments, idyllically situated just 140 metres (459ft) from Four Mile Beach and within the heart of Port Douglas’s bustling main street. When it comes to dinner options, you’ll be spoilt for choice with a streetscape dedicated to an upmarket selection of eateries. If you’d prefer to stay in, your terrace pool apartment is comprehensively fitted out with a kitchen and dining facilities. You even have your own BBQ cooking area! |
In the morning, set off with your naturalist guide along the scenic route via Mossman to Cape Tribulation. Lush farmland contrasts with seascape as you approach the majestic Daintree River. Enjoy a quick morning tea before boarding a delightful river cruise, where you will take in the wonder of the world’s oldest rainforest and learn about the unique flora and fauna that call the region home. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a crocodile! Ascend the Alexandra Range for a panoramic view of the rainforest merging with the sparkling Coral Sea. From here, enjoy a guided walk of the National Park Boardwalk, which weaves through lush lowland rainforest, fascinating mangrove swamps and surprising stretches of sandy beach. This is one of the only places to spot the elusive, rare and totally unique Southern Cassowary. Lunch is a delicious BBQ with freshly prepared salads (dietary requirements catered for with prior notice). After eating, you can handfeed wallabies and have your photo taken with these cute native animals. |

Continue beyond Cape Tribulation along 7 kilometres (4.35mi) of the Bloomfield Track, one of the most scenic short 4WD drives in Queensland famous for its majestic plants, creek crossings, secluded beaches, a rainforest archway and unexpected wildlife. Enjoy a refreshing afternoon swim at Emmagen Creek, where you may see fish, turtles, butterflies and exotic birds. This is the perfect place to relax with a slice of damper and some traditional Billy Tea. At Cape Tribulation Beach, stroll along the sand and boardwalk to one of the best photo stops of the day: the place where the rainforest literally meets the reef. Cap off the day with an ice cream at the famous Daintree Ice Creamery (own cost) before beginning the journey home. You’ll be dropped off at Coconut Grove around 6:00pm. |
Spend the day exploring Port Douglas at your leisure. Enjoy a refreshing swim at Four Mile Beach. Go kayaking, snorkelling or diving. Trek the Flagstaff Hill Trail to reach the Port Douglas Lookout. Explore the boutique shops and art galleries. Speak to Coconut Grove reception about booking another tour. Or, simply relax around the resort pool or in your apartment. In the afternoon, enjoy a private sunset sail aboard a first-class sailing catamaran. Onboard, indulge in complimentary finger food and BYO drinks, as the sun sets red, pink and purple over the coastline of Port Douglas and the mountains of Mossman Gorge. A magical experience! |
At a pre-arranged time that suits you, your private chauffeur will transfer you south to Cairns, the head of the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics Rainforest. You’ll stay the next three nights at Riley, a five-star luxury resort, in a beautiful and chic King Room with a Pool View. Stake your claim beside the pool. Revitalise your mind, body and soul at the Eleme Spa. Enjoy rooftop cocktails and delicious Mediterranean cuisine with a 270-degree panoramic view of Cairns and the Coral Sea at Rocco restaurant onsite. Or, head down to the main street and immerse yourself in everything tropical North Queensland has to offer. The choice is yours! |
In the morning, set out with your naturalist guide on a private tour to Kuranda, Queensland’s colourful and quirky rainforest village. As your tour is private, it’s up to you and your guide to decide what to do and when. Take a ride on the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway, dating back to the 1890s. See the park from above with the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, which runs 7.5 kilometres (4.66mi) above the rainforest canopy of the Barron Gorge National Park. Trawl for locally made clothing and jewellery, wood carvings, leatherwork, ceramics, gemstones and Indigenous art at the local markets. Get up close to native wildlife at the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Birdworld, the Koala Gardens and Rainforestation Nature Park. Learn about local Indigenous culture with the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience. Enjoy a Behind the Scenes Wildlife Tour or Bush Tucker Walk. You’ll cap it all off with a visit to Barron Falls, the most famous waterfall lookout in Queensland. At the end of the day, your guide will return you to Riley resort, where you can treat yourself to a well-deserved dinner (own cost). |
The day is yours to do as much or as little as you please. Start your day with a swim in the resort pool or head down to the manmade saltwater lagoon in town. Wander the Esplanade for the best of both worlds: half of the street is fine dining and boutique shopping; the other half, bargain entertainment. Hire a bike and cruise north to the beach volleyball courts, skate plaza and bouldering park; or laze and graze under the giant palms and bayan trees of the main foreshore. If you’d prefer to venture further afield, speak to the Riley reception desk about booking another tour. After all, the rainforest and reef are right on your doorstep! |
After one last gourmet breakfast, check out and say farewell to tropical North Queensland. A private transfer is scheduled to take you to the Cairns Airport at a time that suits you. NOTE: This itinerary is provided as an example only – prevailing conditions and local arrangements may cause variation. |

The North Queensland climate is characterised by two distinct seasons, with warm temperatures and a low rainfall during the winter period while summer sees higher rainfall and warmer, balmy temperatures. Be mindful that humidity is likely to be high in the summertime.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and Age Limits
You need to advise Onlyluxe travel and the tour operator on any pre-existing medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of your requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a trip and the enjoyment of other trip members. Onlyluxe Travel and the tour operator may require an assessment of your medical condition from a qualified medical practitioner. If you fail to adequately notify the tour operator of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disability, the tour operator reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your participation in a trip at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other trip members.
Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The walks take place in very special wilderness settings. The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a walk with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the walk has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any walk up to 60 days prior to departure if a minimum of 4 walkers are unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the walk or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.
Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.
Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.
For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.
Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
