As dusk settles around 6 pm, you will have the pleasure of meeting your tour leader and fellow adventurers for the first time. During this welcome gathering, we will share introductions and look ahead to the incredible journey that awaits. Following this, your tour leader will extend a warm Chilean welcome as you indulge in a group dinner, a perfect opportunity to forge new friendships. Today is a day of arrival and anticipation; there is no cycling planned, allowing you ample time to settle in and rest before our two-wheeled exploration begins tomorrow. Should you wish to immerse yourself further in the unique charms of San Pedro before the tour officially commences, additional pre-tour hotel nights can be arranged, please contact us. Nestled in the heart of San Pedro de Atacama, you’ll stay at Hotel Pascual Andino, offering an intimate escape, where rustic elegance meets desert charm in its seven exclusive rooms. Here, you can unwind in the tranquil courtyard, seek serenity with a revitalizing massage, or refresh your spirit in the cool waters of the swimming pool after a day of exploration. |

Approx. 47km (29miles), 2-3 hours biking, Elevation gain: 530m (1739 ft) This morning, we mount our bikes for the first time for a gentle acclimatisation ride into the heart of the desert. Leaving the charming town of San Pedro behind, we will pedal our way towards the ethereal landscapes of the Valley of the Moon (Valle de la Luna). As we enter this geological wonder, you'll be forgiven for thinking you’ve been transported to another planet; the valley is renowned for its otherworldly lunar-like terrain, with striking red rock formations, towering sand dunes, and salt-encrusted caves that create a scene often compared to the surface of Mars. After immersing ourselves in this unique environment, you will have the option to extend your exploration by cycling towards El Mirador de Ckari. This viewpoint, located near the famous Piedra del Coyote (Coyote Stone), offers breathtaking panoramic vistas over the Salt Mountain Range and the vast desert plains below. Having soaked in the views, we will cycle back to the comfort of our hotel in San Pedro. |

Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a tour with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the tour has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any tour up to 60 days prior to departure if the minimum number requirement is unable to meet for a tour. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.
Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.
For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.
Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
