A highlight of the town is the modern Teatro del Lago, a remarkable theatre complex that sits elegantly on the water's edge, hosting world-class performances. Here, our ride concludes, and after indulging in a well-deserved lunch, we will transfer back to the comfort of our hotel in Puerto Varas. |

Approx. 60km (37 miles), 4-5 hours biking, Elevation gain: 651m (2136 ft) Our journey continues along the shoreline of Lago Llanquihue, this time heading east toward the charming village of Ensenada. As we ride, the ever-present, imposing figures of the Calbuco and Osorno volcanoes guide our path, their majestic peaks dominating the horizon. From Ensenada, our route shifts, taking us away from the familiar lakeside and deeper into the remote, spectacular landscapes of the mountain range. We cycle onward, tracing the course of the emerald-green Rio Petrohue as it winds through the pristine wilderness. Our ride concludes at the shores of Lago Todos los Santos, where a breathtaking vista of mountains and water awaits. Approx. 31km (19 miles), 4-5 hours biking, Elevation gain: 984m (3228 ft) After a nourishing breakfast, our grand Andean crossing begins as we cycle towards the Argentinian border. The journey unfolds over 12.4 miles (20km) of a steady, rolling incline that allows us to find our rhythm before we face the day's main challenge: a formidable climb ascending 2,297 feet (700m) over 4.7 miles (7.5km). This demanding gravel path tests our resolve, but the reward is reaching the frontier high in the mountains. From this majestic viewpoint, a thrilling, short descent brings us to the quaint Argentinian outpost of Puerto Frias. The character of the unpaved mountain roads here is shaped by the whims of nature; they may be firm and compacted or loose and dusty, adding another layer to our adventure. The final, unforgettable leg of our trans-Andean journey involves a serene ferry crossing on the turquoise waters of Lago Frias, offering a moment of quiet reflection amidst the grandeur of the surrounding peaks. As the vibrant city of Bariloche draws near, we will board a bus for a brief transfer of approximately 30 minutes, seamlessly connecting us to the main lakeside road for the final approach. Our intention is to embark on the midday catamaran; however, should the schedule shift, we will embrace the opportunity for further exploration. This alternative plan allows for a leisurely walk to the enchanting Los Cantaros Waterfall, a cascade of water tumbling through the lush forest, before we return to the hotel for a delightful lunch.

Standard Bike Giant Fathom 2 and Specialised Rockhopper (Mountain Bikes): - Suspension: Front |
Terrain and route: Approximately 72 percent paved, 28 percent unpaved roads. Some large elevation gains. Mixed cycling terrain. Variable weather conditions. Some remote locations. Most of the roads are in good condition, although there are occasional potholes and poorer conditions in some short sections. Come prepared to cycle on unpaved gravel/dirt roads. The condition/quality of the gravel road varies greatly depending on the conditions (ie weather, traffic volume etc) at any given time, and this can make the riding difficulty more or less demanding on each particular trip. The Andes crossing day from Chile to Argentina is the toughest cycling day on the tour as the unpaved road between the lakes involves a long climb up to the border crossing, which is potentially on rough terrain depending on recent weather.
Transport: We have a support vehicle assisting our rides each day so you don’t need to carry anything while riding and you’ll have easy access to the vehicle at drinks stops. If you want to opt out of any rides or sections then you can board the bus. The itinerary is designed so most days involve a combination of cycling and road transfers – this is so we can cover the required distances and ensures we are cycling the most appealing sections that are applicable to the difficulty grading of the trip. Please note on Day 4, there is a 15mi (24km) stretch between Peulla and Puerto Blest with no support vehicle, as it cannot access the national park; however, vehicle access is possible in an emergency.
Traffic: The roads are generally free of heavy traffic until we reach towns, where we are more likely to encounter other vehicles. The traffic there will be worse during high seasons.
Itinerary: Changes in cycle route or distance may be necessary should our cycle team determine safety concerns due to increased commercial traffic and/or deteriorating road conditions pertaining to our originally advertised routes. If you’re visiting at the end of November, we may need to modify Day 7/8 of the itinerary due to the Gran Fondo Siete Lagos cycling race, which follows the Seven Lakes Road. However, this is only necessary if the race date and route coincide with our itinerary, and we will notify you closer to the time if that happens.
Water safety: This trip includes time by a lake, river or sea, where there may be opportunities to swim. You should always seek local advice before deciding whether to swim. Open-water or wild swim spots should be treated with extreme caution.

Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a tour with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the tour has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any tour up to 60 days prior to departure if the minimum number requirement is unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the tour or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.
Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.
Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.
For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.
Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
