Itinerary
Begin with an early morning departure charter flight from Toronto to Kangerlussuaq, where a Zodiac will transfer you to the luxurious Ocean Endeavour. You begin your journey by sailing out of the longest fjord in western Greenland, the Kangerlussuaq Fjord (Søndre Strømfjord), where the Arctic is sublime. Sailing down the legendary Kangerlussuaq Fjord (Søndre Strømfjord) is a true polar pleasure. A whopping 190 kilometers long but just two kilometers wide, this intimate seaway is flanked by countless frosted peaks and glaciers. The rest of Greenland’s west coast is no less majestic—think icebergs, jagged isles, and misty summits. Explore this glittering land and seascape by ship, Zodiac, or on shore. Make sure your camera has a spare memory card, because you might just fill it up! Gather on deck and witness the beauty of The Kangerlussuaq Fjord lined with infinite frosted peaks and glaciers making your way across the Arctic Circle. If you’re lucky, you may be able to spot the beautiful Aurora Borealis NOTE: Charter flight to Toronto is at own expense. (USD $1375 per person) |
Explore western Greenland, the most populated part of Greenland, by ship and Zodiac, a great mix of diversified civilization and rustic atmosphere. Witness Kangerlussuaq, a crucial player in the transportation sector, especially concerning flights to Copenhagen and Iceland. Also, see how the settlement lives up to its Danish name, Evighedsfjorden, meaning “the fjord of eternity.” Of course, there are other attractions you get to see in west Greenland’s coastal ways that will leave you stunned. They include calving glaciers, islands, and fjords with a towering mountain as the backdrop. Be captivated by this glacier wonderland as you explore its majesties by Zodiac. The waters here are relatively warm due to the West Greenland Current and the subarctic location making it ideal for our fascinating cruising adventures. |
Today, after a hearty meal onboard, we stop at the lively and charming capital of Greenland, Nuuk. This harbour, which is a perfect blend of old and new, pays homage to colonial Denmark (note the 170-year-old Our Saviour’s Church and the towering statue of missionary Hans Egede) and modern Greenland (catch the seaside Inuit sculptures and the excellent national museum). The Greenland National Museum is a world to behold, with several breathtaking features; the world-famous Qilakotsoq mummies rest here. Shop and traverse the incredible island of Nuuk, known for its awe-inspiring art, chic boutiques, pubs and cafes. There is also the ancient parliament house and a market where hunters sell sea mammal meat. Explore and enjoy big-city living on the world’s coolest island. |
We continue our expedition onboard Ocean Endeavour, steaming across the world’s broadest Strait, Davis Strait, towards Canada. This shivering sea has united Europe and Arctic North America, with several explorers like Franklin and Amundsen travelling here. Davis Strait’s varying temperature produces stunning cloud streets, which is why you can see ice-caps blocking the northern part of the strait, and beneath the clouds, water opening up in the east. As we travel towards Labrador, deepen your understanding of the environment, cultures, and history. Spend time enlightening and enjoying workshops onboard, watching a documentary, or getting on the deck and keeping an eye out for whales, seabirds, and other marine wildlife. |
Every landing site in Torngat Mountain is a spectacular experience, from the Eclipse Channel filled with vibrant tundra, rushing water and playful seals to the Giant’s Footprint gouging the fjord walls. We will be spending the next three days exploring the Torngat National Park, an area of treeless, mountainous tundra. We will witness some of Canada’s highest peaks, east of the Rockies, in Torngat Mountains National Park. Hike to your fill, accompanied by the Inuit of Nunatsiavut acting as our guides in their spiritual homeland. Visit archaeological sites, search for wildlife, including polar bears, black bears, caribou, falcons, and eagles, and go on a Zodiac cruise on its fascinating waters. In Saglek Fjord, explore Thule tent rings, meat caches, and graves; see and hear legends about the Giant’s Footprints that gouge the fjord walls. You’ll be captivated by the bird life including harlequin ducks and lesser black-backed gulls. At Kangidluasuk St. John’s Harbour, the base camp of Torngat Mountains National Park, meet Inuit rangers and join them on epic hikes across the alpine tundra. |
Enjoy a delightful breakfast onboard before taking a peek into the history of the haunting site of Hebron, which preserves a Moravian Mission dating from the 1830s. In 1959, its residents were forced to relocate by government officials. Visit the old church where the Inuit learnt of the forced relocation. Resulting from the trauma families who were forced to relocate faced, the government, in 2005, issued an apology and commemorated the history. Recently, Inuits are rehabilitating the settlement. Hear the stories from the horse’s mouth as the guides, and former Hebron residents tell us their sides. Pay your respects and visit the reeling cabins, quiet graveyard, archaeological sites and the old mission. |
Experience Inuit culture as you visit Nain, the most northern community in Labrador, and the administrative capital of Nunatsiavut, the government region. Nain, nestled in tamarack forests between the Torngats and the brooding Labrador Sea, is known for its stunning artefacts (built by the Moravians) and ancient geology and history. There are several highlights in the community. Explore the historic Moravian church and enjoy the vibrant brass band and Illusuak, the charming new cultural center. Expect a warm welcome, seize the opportunity to check out beautiful arts, food and handicrafts and enjoy the traditional rousing brass band music. |
For the next few days, we will explore the southern Labrador coast nestled between the Quebec North Shore and the Mealy Mountains of Central Labrador and home to marine life such as whales and seabirds. The region features diverse geography of coastal barrens, high subarctic tundra and boreal forest, string bog, and islands. We’ll take our time to fully discover the hidden gems of this iceberg-bedazzled, whale-spangled coast. Based on the day's conditions, we select a landing best suited for activities you prefer to enjoy at your pace. Experience the joy of being on the water on zodiac cruises. See and marvel at the unique wildlife as they come in and out of the water. Be sure to keep your camera handy! |
Traverse the UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Historic Site of L’Anse aux Meadows. Learn more about the archaeological remains unearthed in 1960 and approximately 1000 CE. L’Anse aux Meadows qualifies as the only authenticated Norse settlement in North America., at the tip pf Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula. We visit the captivating interpretive center and the renovated Scandinavian-style sod buildings. We meet the actors in period costumes who reenact and explain what life was like for the pioneering Norsemen. |
Today, savour the colorful cityscape of St John’s Newfoundland as you explore charming villages and communities. We look forward to a characteristically warm Newfoundland upon our arrival on the east coast. It is dotted with dozens of quaint villages that decorate its rocky shores. Make sure to have your cameras ready to capture the peculiar allure of the classic island communities and stunning coastlines |
We sail into St. John’s historic harbour and glide through the famous Narrows to North America’s oldest city. Keep eyes peeled and camera ready for highlights including Signal Hill, the Basilica of St John the Baptist, the city’s cultural center The Rooms and the bright house of the Battery neighborhood to name a few. Beyond, the wild North Atlantic takes over, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for whales and seabirds. Arriving at St. John’s, the vibrant capital of Newfoundland, we disembark the Ocean Endeavour. Leaving with a new and enlightened perception of the world, we say our goodbyes, having the expedition team on standby to help with luggage and transportation arrangements Note: This itinerary is provided as an example only – prevailing conditions and local arrangements may cause variation. |

Greenland
The entirety of Greenland is located in the polar climate zone with average temperatures that do not exceed 10° C (50° F) in the warmest summer months. This means that, in general, it stays chilly all year-round and gets very cold in the winter, but there are large variations from region to region. In all parts of the country the weather is locally changeable and can vary from fjord to fjord and from one valley to the next. This is because there are a number of factors that affect the climate in Greenland, such as the surrounding coastline and the inland ice sheet. Packing for the Arctic Circle is all about layers. With an arctic climate, rapid weather changes should be expected. A day can shift from clear sunshine to a snowstorm in the blink of an eye, and hence visitors need to come prepared.
Newfoundland
Newfoundland is known for its dramatic unpredictable and often windy and rainy weather; however, showers can quickly turn to sunny skies. The island of Newfoundland has an average summer temperature of 16°C (61°F), while the winter hovers around 0°C (32°F).

Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a tour with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the tour has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any tour up to 60 days prior to departure if the minimum number requirement is unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the tour or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.

'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.
Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.
In the genuine spirit of expedition travel, we encourage exploration and adventure offering flexibility in challenging environments. This itinerary is only a guide and is subject to change due to weather, sea and other conditions beyond our control.
For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.
Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
