Itinerary
Level 2, Approx. 6.4km (4 miles), Elevation gain: 244m (800ft). Meet you Trip Leaders at 10:45 a.m. in the bus parking lot at the train station in Voss, Norway. Arrive dressed in your hiking clothes and bring your luggage and a daypack with your rain gear and anything else you may want for today's hike (your luggage will be transported to our first night's accommodations). Welcome to Norway's outdoor paradise! After meeting at the Voss train station, we stroll across the city to Finnesloftet, a medieval meeting hall, for a lunch made using food from nearby farms. After lunch, continue up into the hills above Voss, taking in panoramic views over sparkling Lake Vangsvatnet. Along the way step back in time at the Voss Folkemuseum, a former farmstead with historic wooden buildings that date from the 16th to 19th centuries. The museum offers an inside look at what life was like in western Norway years ago. Marvel at its vast collection of antiques, folk art, tools, and more. |

In the afternoon, we'll arrive to Store Ringheim, a tranquil boutique hotel located in a gorgeously renovated farmhouse. Relax in your room and enjoy the stunning views of the Ringheim family farm, which they have owned since 1778. Here at Store Ringheim, you'll experience a world apart, a home with character and charm. Later tonight, your leaders will host a reception, and then you'll have dinner at the hotel's farm-to-table restaurant, where you can feast on hearty, homemade dishes using only the freshest local ingredients. |
THREE BIKING OPTIONS: Fuel up with a substantial breakfast before you head out to the lobby to collect your bicycle. After your leaders have adjusted your bike and given you a short lecture on proper cycling practices and safety, you'll be ready to hit the road. Go on a ride in the woods, follow a river, and end your journey with the ancient Skjervsfossen falls. On the Norwegian Scenic Route of Hardanger, you will find the spectacular Skjervsfossen waterfall, which features two 150-meter-tall falls. Continue on your bike to Løo på Seimstunet, a historic farm where we break for a fresh picnic lunch. After lunch, you may either ride up the steep hill yourself or take the shuttle to a beautiful lake, from which you can have a thrilling descent to the Ulvik fjord. Here we leave our bikes behind for a boat ride to Hotel Ullensvang, our home for the next two nights. Our time on the boat will consist of approximately four hours of touring the fjord and learning about the region's rich history and culture. Savour the tranquility as you are embraced by the towering mountains and tree. Even though we won't be that far from Ulvik, it will certainly feel like a world away. |
||
You will be staying at Hotel Ullensvang, which is located along Hardanger Fjord and provides breathtaking and picture-perfect views of the Folgefonna Glacier. The Hotel Ullensvang offers some of the most spectacular views Norway has to offer, with sweeping views of Norway's magnificent fjords, the Folgefonna glacier, and the Hardanger plateau with sceneries capable of literally lulling one to sleep. Make the most of your time at the Ullensvang Bath, with our 88-meter-long swimming channel extending from a heated indoor pool to an outdoor infinity pool, or unwinding in the charming grounds with private beach and distinctive sceneries. This evening we reconvene for a wonderful dinner boasting a 3-course menu. |
TWO HIKING OPTIONS: After a healthy breakfast, make your way on foot from the hotel to the beginning of the exciting hike that will take you to the peak of the plateau that looms over Ullensvang. Before entering further wilderness, the trail will take you through some picturesque apple orchards, which have been an important part of the region's agricultural landscape for centuries. As you make your way up to the Hovden overlook, beautiful panoramas of Srjord and the surrounding countryside will unfold before your eyes. From this vantage point, take a leisurely stroll along the Opo River while gazing up at one of the many waterfalls plunging down from the high plateau above. Afterward, make your way back to our hotel by winding down through the orchards. Alternatively, if you're looking for a more tranquil ascent, the Monk Steps, a steep and attractive trail paved with stones placed by monks in the 12th century, may be just what you're looking for. Hardangervidda National Park offers beautiful views of steep mountain slopes, Europe's largest herd of wild reindeer, and a variety of other artctic flora and fauna from its vantage point some 3,000 feet above the fjord. Hardangercidda mountain trout are some of the best in the world, and one of the many fish that may be caught here. Later, take a stroll to Folgefonna National Park, home to Norway's third-largest glacier. |
||
Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing in the swimming pool or explore the fjord in a rowboat. Or, for the utmost in mind, body, and spirit relaxation, head to the hotel's sauna and take in breathtaking views of the fjord and the mountains. Join your leaders this evening as they take a stroll up to Alvavoll Cidery to sample some of the region's ciders before sitting down to a dining affair at the hotel's restaurant. |
Today, experience Norway's beauty from a different perspective—in a kayak! After breakfast we shuttle to Rosendal, a quaint village set on the shore of Hardangerfjord. Grab a paddle and shove off in your sturdy sea kayak to explore the fjord's sapphire waters, soaking in views of the Rosendal Alps soaring overhead. Make your way to tiny Kalven Island for a delicious lunch before returning to the mainland. A fast ferry whisks us away from Rosendal to Osyro, where the Solstrand Hotel, our opulent seaside retreat for the next two nights, is a short walk away. Solstrand's breathtaking sunrises, crystal-clear water, and chirping birds will captivate you. Awaken to the sounds of the fjord and various birdsongs. All of the rooms feature windows that overlook Bjrnefjorden, the surrounding mountains, and the garden. This afternoon, you can unwind in the heated outdoor pool or, if you're feeling daring, jump off the hotel's swimming pier into the Bjrnafjorden. Tonight, you are welcome to dine at your leisure in the hotel, which specializes in local cuisine with an international twist—tradition meets contemporary Nordic cuisine. |
TWO BIKING OPTIONS: After breakfast we travel by boat from the hotel to Våge on Tysnesøy, a rocky and forested island with a verdant mountain at its heart, for a day of scenic biking. Jump on two wheels and spin along a rolling route, absorbing the sight of the mountains and nearby islands in every direction. As you ride along quiet roads, keep your eyes peeled for glimpses of the Rosendal Alps and Folgefonna glacier in the distance. After a harborside lunch in Våge, we return by boat to the hotel, where you can enjoy the infinity pool or a spa treatment (spa treatment at own expense). Tonight, we will convene at the hotel's restaurant for a farewell dinner and toast to an unforgettable Norwegian journey. |
On our last morning, we'll be able to partake in a very Norwegian activity: fishing. Cast off from the hotel's pier into the Bjrnafjorden, which is teeming with fish like cod, mackerel, cusk, and ling. You might also take your time over breakfast, then unwind in the sauna or visit the spa. We get back together for a seafood lunch on the hotel grounds, where we can enjoy the day's catch in peace. The journey concludes in Bergen, where you will say goodbye to your Trip Leaders and board your shuttle. NOTE: This itinerary is provided as an example only – prevailing conditions and local arrangements may cause variation. |

In the event that we are forced to change your arrangements, substitute arrangements of a similar standard will be provided. Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and Age Limits
You need to advise Onlyluxe travel and the tour operator on any pre-existing medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of your requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a trip and the enjoyment of other trip members. Onlyluxe Travel and the tour operator may require an assessment of your medical condition from a qualified medical practitioner. If you fail to adequately notify the tour operator of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disability, the tour operator reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your participation in a trip at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other trip members.
Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a tour with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the tour has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any tour up to 60 days prior to departure if the minimum number requirement is unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the tour or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.
Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.
Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.
For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.
Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
