Approx. 36 km (22 miles), 2-3 hours biking Xin chào and welcome to Hanoi, Vietnam’s lively capital. You’ll meet with your fellow travelers, then get comfortably fitted to your bike for the road ahead. (A support van is already on standby to whisk you away to Ba Vi National Park.) Notice the slow and gradual change in scenery as we hit the road. With a few miles covered already, Hanoi’s tempting chaos slowly gives way to quiet villages and open countryside. Nothing but pure bliss; the constant chirping of birds and hum of wheels rolling along the peaceful banks of the Da River, just before rural life sets in. We arrive at Hoa Binh midday, slowly received by its rippling limestone mountains richly covered in patched vegetation. Lunch is set nearby at a local favorite spot carefully chosen by your leader. Refuel satisfactorily before we get on the road for a scenic journey to Mai Chau. Sat on a fertile valley, this is one of the places in Asia where traditional stilt houses still remain central to daily life. It is also home to several ethnic groups, each with their own unique languages and traditions. Our dining spot is located just around, at a favorite local spot (sometimes a homestay), where we toast to our first dinner together. Use the free time to bond with your group and share in the excitement for the many adventures to come. |

Your accommodation for the next three nights is an eco-luxury lodge overlooking vast stretches of rice paddies and limestone karsts. Set on a private hill in Mai Chau, the design from each of its spacious rooms draw from ethnic Thai-stilt houses with air-conditioning, a restaurant, outdoor showers and an outdoor pool among many other comfort amenities. |

Approx. 28 km (17 miles), 2-3 hours biking Wake up to Mai Chau’s authentic morning routine, with roosters sounding you awake and fresh coffee to get you on your feet. Breakfast follows before we jump on our bikes for a cruise through Mai Chau Valley. Our route is a peaceful pocket of northern Vietnam known for its flat, bike-friendly paths and White Thai villages. The experience on this path is one more reason to visit here again: emerald rice paddies extending beneath towering limestone karsts, and farmers waving a fond hello as they guide their buffalo through the fields. With the ride done and the views still fresh, we retire back to the hotel to relax and unwind. Perhaps, lounge by the pool, take a stroll through the village streets, or better still, cool off with a chilled glass of nước thốt nốt (just the thing you need after the afternoon cycling). |

Approx. 10 km (6 miles), 2-3 hours walking Start the day with freshly brewed coffee for the road. Today, we trade the saddles for adventure on foot. Our path leads into the hills toward Hang Kia, a remote H’Mong community sitting high in mist-wrapped mountains at around 1,200 m (3,937 ft). This area is known for its cool air complemented by steep terrains, and a lifestyle that has not changed much over generations. Touch boots on ground as we begin our walk downhill, threading between hectares of patchwork fields, corn terraces, and quiet villages. Soon, we descend from the highlands to the village of Bao La at roughly 300 m (984 ft). With the drop in altitude, the air feels warmer and with it, an ever-changing scenery providing the right opportunity to savor a local Vietnamese lunch (fresh fruits included). We return to the hotel afterwards, faces flushed and right on time for dinner. Raise a glass and celebrate another day that has delivered on every level. |

Approx. 43 km (27 miles), 3-5 hours biking Wheel up after breakfast as we roll into a hidden gem of northern Vietnam. The Pu Luong Reserve stretches over 17,600 hectares of limestone karsts, terraced rice fields, and lush forests which has remained home to Thai and Muong communities for generations. We ride through its timeless scenery filled with the sound of radio drifting through open windows of stilt houses, while kids zoom past on bikes that are clearly too small, laughing all the way. The first 9 miles we travel feature smooth, flat paths through emerald rice paddies and sleeping villages, and is a good warm up for what’s to come. The next leg ascends from 540 m (1,772 ft), winding uphill and off the beaten track. By this time, you can catch glimpses of wooden stilt houses peaking from the hillsides; Buffalo grazing quietly in the fields, and the smell of earth and growing rice. This is the real Vietnam you don't get to see everyday, still untouched and alive with local life. As evening settles in, return back to the hotel for dinner, delivered Pù Luông-style. The dishes are simple, local, and full of flavor with tasty takes including free-range chicken grilled over open coals; bamboo-cooked sticky rice with a unique smokey taste; and fresh mountain vegetables stir-fried with garlic, and pork slow-roasted until tender. Everything you see is made with fresh ingredients sourced from the nearby fields: just the kind of meal that tastes even better after a long day in the saddle. |

Perched hillside with a 500 m elevation above sea in Don Village, the Pu Luong Retreat and your accommodation for the next two nights provides access to its thatched bungalows and villas with balconies, infinity pools, open-air restaurants, and a massage and yoga center, all crowned by panoramic terraced rice fields, valleys and mountains in the heart of Pu Luong Nature Reserve. |

Approx. 12 km (8 miles), 2-3 hours walking Today, the Kho Muong Cave, also known as Bat Cave sets the pace for today's adventure. From its underground, a colossal cavern runs deep into the limestone mountain, opening into cathedral-like chambers with hanging stalactites (almost as if they were a chandelier). The first thing you may notice is the cooler temperature and the way our voices linger in the air long after we stop talking. Take some time to just immerse in the moment, before we trek onward to Lan Village. This quiet village is known for its traditional hand-woven textiles, which you may have already noticed from the steady click-clack of looms inside the wooden houses. By now, appetites are well and truly earned. Lunch follows, delivering that sumptuous and homemade refuel for the road ahead. Once we’re fed and rested, we resume the adventure with a hike to Hieu waterfall at the heart of Pu Luong Nature Reserve. Through a jungle trail, our route follows a lush path overgrowing with wild vegetation before opening up to the roar of 800 m cascading water. At the base of the fall is a clear, blue pool of water, uniquely rich in limestone, and a perfect way to decompress after walking. A relaxed walk takes us back to the hotel where the day is yours to do as you please. You may want to sink into the pool, enjoy a quiet drink of Tây Bắc, or wind the time with a friendly card game, the choice is yours to make. |

Approx. 64 km (40 miles), 4-6 hours biking We wave farewell to Pu Luong, and onward as the road tilts generously downhill. Every climb we have conquered from earlier in the journey is finally repaid in smooth, breezy descents; and this time, with sweeping views of mountains and sleeping rural roads. With miles gained, the scenery grows increasingly cinematic, guiding the road to Ninh Binh. At first glance, you can see why it is often called the “Halong Bay on Land,” with its towering limestone karsts that rise from thriving emerald paddies. The panorama is further elevated with sights of water buffalo ambling through the fields, and farmers harvesting their fields of rice by hand; just as their ancestors have for generations. Our journey proceeds towards the fringes of Vietnam’s oldest national park, Cuc Phuong National Park. Here, ancient rainforests rein with towering trees that have stood for a thousand years. Their thick vines twisting skywards, and a deep, quiet sense of time stretching far beyond the present moment. It’s all free to soak in, perhaps, linger a little longer before we join the support fan from the forest edge for a short transfer to Tam Coc. Your stay for the next two nights is Emeralda Tam Coc, a picturesque 4-star hotel located in the heart of the Tam Coc wharf, offering vistas of the majestic nature here. Dinner tonight is profusely satisfying, fresh and full of flavor. Think grilled mountain goat brightened with lime, crunchy com cháy (burnt rice cakes), or a comforting bowl of eel vermicelli soup. |

Approx. 60 km (34 miles), 4-6 hours biking Today, we roll straight into Ninh Binh; and just like the day before, a flurry of excitement accompanies the road as we cruise through. It's almost impossible not to slow down and just take it all in. We will disembark from the saddles and walk to Mua Cave, although the real reward of this exciting highlight isn’t underground. But rather, through a climb that stretches over 500 stone steps carved into the mountain, and a steady ascent to one of the most iconic viewpoints in Vietnam. From the top, savor the winding sight of the Ngo Duong River through bright green paddies, and the sharp karst peak backdrop which quiets even the most enthusiastic photographers. We hop on the saddles and continue the cycling through backroads and friendly villages to a local favourite spot for lunch. Expect sticky barbeque duck, classic Vietnamese fried rice, or the region’s surprisingly popular goat pizza. Noon invites a different means of adventure, and nothing feels better than a traditional sampan paddled with oars as we glide into Thien Ha Cave. Less visited and wonderfully atmospheric, the cave reveals itself slowly through an underground waterway clad in suspended stalactites and past ancient rock formations. You may recognize the settings as the exact same landscape featured as “Skull Island” in Kong. As the daylight softens, we return to the resort for one final dinner together, with stories of our past encounters shared along. |

Approx. 35 km (22 miles), 2-3 hours biking This morning, we transfer to Hong Quang, home to Rạch (one of the few remaining cradles of Vietnam's centuries-old water puppetry tradition, where the art originated over 1,000 years ago). With insights from an expert guide, discover how this unique art was born in flooded rice paddies. At the time, farmers would stand waist-deep in water to tell stories of village life, folklore, and legend. One final ride for our journey so far. Through the peaceful countryside, we pedal toward a charming covered bridge and on to the striking remains of the Church of Saint Maria Madalena, often referred to as the “Ruined Church.” True to its name, weathered brick walls rise against open skies, and vines creep through its old stonework; quite photogenic for shots and undeniably dramatic. Following the “truly” immersive encounter, we gather for a last group lunch before bidding farewell. Pack your backs, then enjoy your last transfer back to Hanoi arriving at 3pm for your onward journey. NOTE: This itinerary is provided as an example only – prevailing conditions and local arrangements may cause variation. |

Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a tour with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the tour has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any tour up to 60 days prior to departure if the minimum number requirement is unable to meet for a tour. Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.
For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.
Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
