Walking Distance

Easy to Moderate – many walks are short and most of the longer ones allow you to go as far as you like before you turn back. The walks in the Kimberley are not particularly difficult. Some are quite rocky underfoot however none are particularly long, so we can afford to take our time. Most of the walks include an opportunity to swim in a beautiful water hole.

Weather & Climate

The Kimberley region of Western Australia has a tropical climate that see two distinct seasons. From May to September, the Dry season sees very little rain and long, sunny, cloudless days. Temperatures in the dry season are cooler than the very hot Wet season, ranging between 31°c and 37°c.

The Wet season spans from October to April, a time of increased humidity and increased rainfall (32-40°c). The rivers become full and masses of wildlife congregate on their shores.

The dress code is relaxed, smart casual with suitable footwear for bushwalking. Hats, sunglasses and sunscreen are essential protection from the sun.

What's the trip grading?
This trip is for almost anyone with a reasonable level of fitness and competent swimming ability. This adventure is designed for the enthusiastic and adventurous in search of something different. This trip has been graded at an introductory to moderate level. However, some days will be quite active involving steep walks for most of the day. These adventures are best prepared for with some regular moderate exercise. As always with adventure travel, you should enjoy a healthy lifestyle before undertaking this trip. Please bear in mind that because you will be travelling into a remote wilderness, creature comforts are limited. Your level of fitness can also help you acclimatise to the warm temperatures and humidity, so we suggest a bit of swimming, walking, jogging or cycling to get yourself ready for the Kimberley region!

Transport
Transport is by an air-conditioned custom built four wheel drive (4WD) tour coach, designed for comfort in outback conditions. Vehicles are modern, comfortable and regularly serviced to ensure their safety and reliability. They are also fitted with long-range high frequency radios and recovery gear in case of emergency. In the case of breakdown or other unforeseen circumstances affecting the vehicle or guide, the operator reserves the right to substitute vehicles and guides other than those specified, to ensure the operation of a tour. Seat Allocation: Seats on tour vehicle are not pre allocated. To ensure all participants get to enjoy window seats we encourage a daily seat rotation system.

Food, Drinking Water & Alcohol

You'll be pleasantly surprised at the variety and quality of the meals prepared under what are sometimes difficult conditions. Your resourceful guides will ensure that fresh local produce and ingredients are used when available. Three meals each day plus morning tea and pre dinner nibbles are included as part of your tour (apart from dinner on day 9 which will be at your own expense so that the guides have time to restock in Kununurra for your journey to the Bungles).

Provided we are advised in advance of your departure we are able to cater for dietary requirements. Please ensure you discuss your requirements with us well in advance to determine whether we can cater to such dietary requirements on your chosen adventure. Please note that options are likely to be limited in very remote locations or alternatives may be more expensive or unavailable. There may be times when those with special requirements may need to provide their own food. We are unable to guarantee a peanut‐free or allergen‐free trip, and therefore, we strongly encourage that travellers with life‐threatening or severe allergies take all necessary medical precautions to prepare for the possibility of exposure. You must travel with all necessary medications for food allergies and be capable of self‐administering these medications.

Drinking water is always available. Guests may bring a small quantity of alcohol, cardboard wine casks are preferred and beer must be in cans rather than stubbies. We have limited cooling capacity onboard so a cask of red wine, if you drink it, is the perfect drink to bring. We can cool a few cans of beer each evening though so if you're a beer drinker you'll be okay.

The main reason we prefer cardboard and cans is that there are very limited rubbish disposal sites. Being able to crush the containers saves a lot of space. Also, they are far less likely to break as we're driving over rough roads!

Please note that bottle shops in Kununurra and Broome don't sell casks of wine (to reduce problems associated with binge/ excessive drinking) so please bring them with you in your luggage. It is okay to purchase some bottles of wine, but we would like to keep it to a minimum. You can purchase alcohol in Broome, at El Questro Station and in Kununurra.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and Age Limits
You need to advise Onlyluxe travel and the tour operator on any pre-existing medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of your requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a trip and the enjoyment of other trip members. Onlyluxe Travel and the tour operator may require an assessment of your medical condition from a qualified medical practitioner. If you fail to adequately notify the tour operator of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disability, the tour operator reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your participation in a trip at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other trip members.

Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The walks take place in very special wilderness settings. The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a walk with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the walk has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any walk up to 60 days prior to departure if a minimum of 4 walkers are unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the walk or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.

Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.

Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.

For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.

Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
